
In a tragic spiraling of violence in Nigeria’s North-Central state, over 20 soldiers were reportedly killed in the early hours of Tuesday during a fierce attack by armed terrorist on a military camp near Bangi, in Mariga Local Government Area (L.G.A) of Niger State.
The deadly assault, which occurred around dawn on June 24, 2025, saw the heavily armed terrorist overwhelm the camp after a sustained gun battle.
Sources within the security forces said that the terrorist launched a surprise assault.
“Today, about 20 soldiers were killed by armed bandits near Bangi, Mariga LGA of Niger State in an early morning attack on their camp,” a source close to the military said.
Details about this attack are still under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate that several soldiers were also injured.
The incident has sparked renewed fears over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Niger State and other northern states, where communities have repeatedly come under attack from terrorist and many have lost their lifes
Earlier on Tuesday, an unconfirmed number of military personnel had been killed while attempting to repel a terrorist attack along a highway in Zamfara State.
In a separate but related incident, terrorists stormed Tofa community, where they reportedly killed over 15 persons.
Tofa village, located in Magami area of Gusau Local Government Area (L.G.A) in Zamfara, has been devastated by repeated bandit attacks.
