The APC campaign council has named Wike, Adeleke and Soludo as state coordinators as Tinubu prepares for the 2027 presidential election. The list, released on Tuesday, October 13, includes Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The appointments have attracted attention because the three politicians belong to different political parties, although they have been assigned roles in President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign structure. The development also highlights the political relationships surrounding the ruling party as it begins organising its campaign ahead of the next presidential election.

APC Campaign Council Names Wike, Adeleke and Soludo

Under the revised arrangement, Wike will coordinate Tinubu’s presidential campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Adeleke will oversee campaign activities in Osun State. Soludo has been assigned the same responsibility in Anambra State.

Their inclusion has drawn interest because of their different political affiliations. Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeleke won the August 2026 Osun governorship election under the Accord Party, and Soludo represents the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Despite these differences, all three politicians now feature in the APC’s campaign structure, illustrating how political cooperation can extend beyond formal party membership. However, their appointments do not automatically mean they have defected to the ruling party.

Other prominent names on the revised list include Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo. The council also includes serving governors, federal lawmakers, former public office holders and senior party figures who will oversee different aspects of the campaign.

President Tinubu will chair the council, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice-chairmen. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are also listed as vice-chairmen.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari will serve as Director-General, while several other political figures will oversee mobilisation, administration, logistics and election planning.

Political Alliances Shape Preparations for 2027

The revised APC campaign council list comes as political parties and influential figures begin preparing for the 2027 general elections. Campaign councils help candidates coordinate political activities, engage stakeholders and organise support across different parts of the country.

By assigning state-level responsibilities to prominent politicians, the APC has established a structure for coordinating its presidential campaign across the federation. The appointments also bring together figures with different political backgrounds and varying levels of influence in their respective states.

Wike’s role is particularly notable because he serves as a federal minister under an APC-led administration while retaining his PDP affiliation. His relationship with Tinubu has remained a subject of political discussion since the 2023 presidential election, when the president appointed him to lead the FCT Ministry.

Adeleke and Soludo also bring their own political networks to the arrangement through their respective positions as state governors. Their inclusion may encourage further discussion about cross-party cooperation, although the practical implications will depend on how the campaign structure operates.

The APC has not, through these appointments alone, established that the three politicians have changed their party affiliations. Their inclusion should therefore be understood as a campaign council arrangement rather than confirmation of formal defections.

Tinubu’s Campaign Council Awaits Inauguration

Reports published on October 13 indicated that Tinubu was expected to inaugurate the revised campaign council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14.

The inauguration would provide an opportunity to formally establish the council’s leadership structure and responsibilities ahead of the election campaign. Its subsequent activities will show how the party intends to coordinate its national and state-level operations.

As preparations continue, the APC campaign council list is likely to remain a subject of political interest, particularly because it includes influential figures from outside the ruling party. The roles assigned to these individuals also raise broader questions about political alliances and cooperation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
