A 104-year-old woman, Dorothy Hoffner, who skydived to break the Guinness World Records (GWR), has died a week after the attempt in Chicago, USA.
AP News reports that if GWR had certified her, she would have been the oldest person to jump out of a plane at her age.
Dorothy’s friend, Joe Conant, said that the woman was found dead in her sleep.
It should be noted that they have been friends for years since they met at a senior living centre, USA Today reports.
Of the great energy she commands, Conant said: “She was indefatigable. She just kept going.
She was not someone who would take naps in the afternoon, or not show up for any function, dinner or anything else.
She was always there, fully present. She kept going, always.” The skydiving task happened on Sunday, October 1, 2203, as Dorothy jumped from a plane that was 13,500 feet from the ground.
After completing the task, the woman later said age was just a number as many people praised her feat.
Even in death, Conant said he is working towards presenting Dorothy’s attempt to the Guinness World Records so she can be posthumously certified.
Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson of Sweden, a 103-year-old, has the present record.
