A Governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State in the 2019 election, Alhaji Sagir Hamida, has been killed by unknown gunmen at a place called Rijana, along Kaduna-Abuja highway. The ugly incident occurs on Sunday.

This was contained in a statement issued by the deceased’s elder brother, Kabiru Hamida, who said that Sagir was killed close to Abuja while he was coming back from the weekend.

Mr Sagir Hamida, who was until his death based in Abuja where he run his business was the former director in the federal civil service, he aspired for the governorship position of Zamfara under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011 but lost to his opponent at the party’s primary election.

He later decamped to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and contested for the governorship position in 2019 but was allegedly maneuvered by the former governor Abdulaziz Yari-led APC faction in the state from. Sagir Hamida resorted to joining the seven other aspirants to form the G-8 which fought the Yari-led group up to the Supreme Court seeking for justice.

He later returned to the Yari faction of the APC in the state with the defection of the state governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, from the PDP to the APC to oppose Matawalle’s leadership of the party in the state, a position he held till he was killed.

The Director-General of Media to the Governor, Malam Yusuf Idris, while addressing news men told them that the governor received the news with a rude shock and was hitherto reticent about the incident due to his unavoidable absence, but promised he will soon be out in public to talk on the issue.

The Director General of media to the governor said; “I can tell you, my principal is still in shock since the news was broken to him that one of the illustrious sons of the state was killed. We shall furnish you on this when we get more details because right now, the governor is in Abuja attending a crucial meeting,” Idris said.
