A Lakurawa attack in Kebbi has killed two soldiers and a Chinese national at a highway construction site in Maiyama Local Government Area. The incident also left two civilians injured, raising fresh concerns about security around major infrastructure projects in north-western Nigeria.

The attack occurred at Gubba Village, within the Andarai District of Maiyama. The victims were reportedly connected to the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project, where soldiers provided security for construction workers.

Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson Superintendent Bashir Usman confirmed the killings. He said suspected Lakurawa militants attacked the site while the soldiers were protecting the Chinese national and other workers.

Lakurawa Attack in Kebbi Triggers Security Operation

Following the attack, security agencies launched a manhunt for the suspected assailants. Authorities are also working to strengthen security in affected communities and prevent further violence.

Police confirmed that two civilians sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. Emergency responders reportedly took the injured victims for medical treatment.

However, authorities have not publicly released the names of the two soldiers. Investigators are expected to gather further details about the circumstances surrounding the killings.

The attack highlights the risks facing construction workers and security personnel operating in areas affected by armed violence. Such incidents can disrupt infrastructure projects, threaten nearby communities and undermine public confidence in security operations.

The Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is a major infrastructure project designed to improve road connections across parts of Nigeria. Protecting workers and construction sites remains important to ensuring that projects continue without further security disruptions.

Troops Repel Separate Attack on Military Base

The killings came amid reports of another confrontation involving suspected Lakurawa fighters in Maiyama. Troops reportedly repelled an attack on a military forward operating base in the area.

Military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said troops recovered 17 motorcycles, an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, ammunition and a communication device after the attackers withdrew.

The military also reported continued patrols and clearance operations to track fleeing fighters and prevent them from regrouping.

These developments reflect the security challenges facing Kebbi and neighbouring Sokoto State, where armed groups have threatened communities and targeted security personnel.

Authorities now face pressure to protect residents, secure construction sites and prevent further attacks. Stronger coordination among security agencies will be essential to restoring confidence and reducing risks for workers involved in major infrastructure projects.
