LATE SAMI GOMO II:
THE REVELATION OF GOVERNOR IDRIS’S UNCOMMON QUALITIES.

By Aliyu Usman, Birnin Kebbi

In many situations, the best of a leader or otherwise manifest when the leader is confronted with challenging peoples demands on critical social and economic issues.

Although  Governor Nasir Idris has within the last two years demonstrated his unwavering commitment to infrastructural development, improved economic development and deserved respect for elders and major stakeholders in Kebbi project, his recent further demonstration of concern, personal and official commitment towards saving the life of the late Emir of Zuru Major-General Muhammadu Sani Sami Gomo ll,  has revealed another positive dimension of his patriotism.

According to Abdulllahi Idris Zuru It further revealed the Govenor’s exceptional
leadership qualities.

It is equally worthy of note that Comrade Nasir kauran Gwandu has on request, been ensuring regular medical checks and in some cases comprehensive treatment for the first class traditional rulers and respected elder statemen in the emirate.

Late Muhammadu Sani Sami Gomo ll, left his palace in Zuru for Daura to condole with the family of his friend and colleague in the military, former President Muhammadu Buhari, thereafter proceeded to Abuja for a brief stay before he returned home. Unexpectedly, he was reported to a critical health issue that requires medical treatment at a London hospital.

When  Governor Nasir was informed about the condition of the Emir, he swiftly approved the financial requirements for the royal father’s treatment in London as requested by the state council of chiefs.

As destined by Allah,.late General Sami Gomo ll couldn’t survive the illness and gave up at the time Governor Nasir Idris was at the hospital to check his condition.

The sad looking Governor personally oversaw the arrangements for the release of the Emir’s corpse for transportation back to Nigeria.
While the process of the release of the corpse was on going,   Governor Nasir informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about the sad news.

He also directed that a high-powered delegation of the state government’s officials to be headed by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to proceed to Zuru for the burial arrangements and reception of the condolence visitors.

Eventually, Comrade Governor Nasir returned to the country and to Zuru on Friday morning where he later received the corpse along with top federal and state governments functioneries, prominent traditional rulers religious leaders and prominent politicians.

The funeral prayers was held at the Zuru Central mosque and attended by the vice president Alhaji Kashim Shetima, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar lll, the Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Etsu Nupe Alhaji  Yahaya Abubakar and many Emirs, Chiefs, Obas, religious leaders and prominent politicians from different parts of the country.

However, those conversant with the cordiality of the relationship between Comrade Governor Nasir kauran Gwandu and the late Emir of Zuru will not be surprised with the honour accorded to the Emir even at death.

There was a reported mutual respect and genuine understanding between Comrade Governor Nasir and the late Emir on the peculiarities of the emirate in respect of the multiple tribes and religion of the people.

The infrastructural deficit and the deplorable condition of the existing structures in the emirate, particularly the Koko-Zuru federal road project were also to be part of the mutual understanding.

Governor Nasir Idris who the late Emir conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Garkuwan Zuru has with honesty and sincerity been honouring the late Emir’s requests by the emirate gets its fair share of the state government’s projects, programmes and appointments in addition to the taken over the reconstruction of the abandoned Koko-Zuru federal road project.

The strong relationship between Governor Nasir Idris and the late Emir of Zuru was built on mutual respect and understanding of the needs of the emirate’s needs.

Comrade Governor Nasir Idris’s actions demonstrates his commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers and the people of Kebbi State.

The late Emir’s legacy will be remembered for his contributions to the development of the emirate and Governor Idris efforts will have a lasting impact on the growth of the emirate.
