African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has said he deliberately chose Nigeria despite having opportunities to build a life abroad.
Rhodes-Vivour made the statement while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he explained that he had lived and studied in several countries before returning to Nigeria.
“I finished high school in Paris; after that, I went to England, and then America before coming to Nigeria,” he said.
According to him, he could have pursued citizenship in any of those countries but chose not to create an alternative to Nigeria.
Rhodes-Vivour Says Nigeria Is His Only Option
The Lagos governorship candidate said his decision to remain in Nigeria was driven by his love for the country. He also said he wants to contribute to its development.
At any point in time, I could have become a citizen of any of these countries.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour added that his commitment to Nigeria influenced his decision to stay in the country. He said it also influenced his decision to continue participating in politics despite the challenges.
“I don’t want to give myself any other option apart from Nigeria. That is why we are here and fighting for a better Nigeria,” he added.
The statement comes as Rhodes-Vivour prepares to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election on the ADC platform. The party formally listed him among its governorship candidates for the 2027 election, with Babatunde Gbadamosi as his running mate.
Rhodes-Vivour previously contested the Lagos governorship election in 2023 under the Labour Party. He later joined the ADC coalition ahead of the 2027 race.
The statement highlights Rhodes-Vivour’s continued emphasis on building his political future in Nigeria. His comments also come as political parties and candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. The ADC candidate has previously said he remains focused on offering an alternative political direction in Lagos.
