In the entire Southeast, Enugu and AWKUZU SARS are the deadliest when it comes to extrajudicial killing of suspects. Once they shoot arrested suspect, they bury them and tell the relatives of the suspects that they’ve been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.
This Ugochukwu Ozoude, though a mere IPO, was more like the OC Enugu SARS before 2008 till he was transferred, he was known as Orthopedic – a nickname he earned for regularly sending suspects to Orthopedic hospital, Enugu by breaking their bones with bullets in the course of interrogation.
He ran Enugu SARS because the main OC sustained gun shot injury and walked on clutches. According to testimonies of some of his victims, this man was as murderous as James Nwafor.
He executed so many innocent people including Ugochukwu nwankwo, the son of Amechi Nwankwo – the Akpugo man who owns Premier Guest Inn, Agbani, one Ugochukwu akina, a resident of coal camp Enugu, one Chijioke Chukwuma, a native of anambra state, one Odinaka anyawu from IMO state, one Chukwuebuka Nzekude, one Elochukwu Okenwa from Akpugo, one Ikenna Nnam a resident of uwani Enugu, one young man simply known as Aji, a man called biggy from orji river in Enugu state, one Chibuzo ilonwogbu a native of orji river in Enugu state, and so many other people. For days, we’ve been assembling evidence and witnesses against him.
In the entire Southeast, all SARS detention facilities still have inmates and majority of them were arrested simply for having flashy cars or tattoo. Please, while this protest lasts, let us push for those still in SARS detention to be freed AFTER THOROUGH INVESTIGATION as well as for the SARS men to face justice. I know that everyone is angry. Emotions are high. And in times like this, people tend to be more emotional than strategic
But understand that without sustained pressure, none of those two men and others like them will be prosecuted by their respective state govt because the truth is, while you see those men as notorious assassins, the political class see them as well renowned hitmen who are very useful and in high demand.
You can demand for anything demandable. You can go to Imo and tell Hope he is a supreme Court governor just as you can go to Enugu, Abia, Anambra et al and tell the governors to their faces that they are not performing. Doing this can be emotionally fulfilling. Heroic, even! But that is where it ends. Success is measured by results, not action or good intention alone. So don’t do just that and hit your chest that you’ve recorded result.
What will produce real result is ensuring that by the time this protest is all over, amongst the results that will have been recorded will include the trial of those SARS OCs and operatives implicated in extrajudicial killings as well as freeing (AFTER THOROUGH INVESTIGATION) those still in their detention centers unjustly. Do not make the mistake of thinking that this protest will last forever and accord you the latitude to get everything you want
Compile list of people you know who have had horrible experience at the hands of these men, gather witnesses. This is a valid way of forcing the govt to hold them accountable. It is time to make SPECIFIC IMPLEMENTABLE DEMANDS.
