The popular comedian cum Yoruba actor Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe is dead.

The veteran actor died on Monday, 22nd day of November at 67.

Adesola Omidina, the daughter of Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe announce the death of his father.

According to Adesola who made the disclosure at an instagram post she made on her official handle @Sola Omidina: “This is to announce the death of my father, Babatunde Omidina, the legend and rare gem, Baba Suwe on November 22, 2021. Details and other arrangements will be announced shortly.”

The veteran actor was born on August 22, 1958, in Inabere Street in Lagos Island where he grew up but he hails originally from Ikorodu local government area of Lagos State, south western Nigeria. Omidina had his primary education at Jamaatul Islamiyah Primary School in Lagos and Children Boarding School, Osogbo before he proceeded to Adekanbi Commercial High School in Mile 12, Lagos state but obtained the West African School Certificate from Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, south western Nigeria.

Babatunde Omidina began his acting career in 1971 but came into limelight after he acted a role in a movie titled, Omolasan, a film produced by Obalende. He became more prominent after he featured in a movie titled Iru Esin, produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997.

He had acted many movies and produced several others including Baba Jaiye jaiye, a movie that featured Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo, the son of the veteran actor actor Adebayo Salami. In 2011, he was accused of cocaine trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, though he was later absolved of the guilt. The allegation was later described as false and defamatory by the ruling of the lagos high court of law.

Baba Suwe until his death, Babatunde Omidina was a prominent actor in the Yoruba movie industry, he rose to popularity for his comical roles in Nollywood films in Yoruba language.
