Guinness World Records has confirmed Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, as the current holder of the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.
The 26-year-old chef From Akwa Ibom state started her cook-a-thon on Thursday 11 May, continuing through to Monday 15 May, in the process cooking over 100 pots of food.
Though Hilda’s attempt was a 100 hours record, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total due to a mistake on her part.
The participant is only permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity, but the rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. These were the only times Hilda is allowed use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.
An Indian chef identified as Lata Tondon held the previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes in her cooking stint in 2019.
Hilda before making her attempt had averred that she intends to “put Nigerian cuisine on the map” and “to inspire young African women to chase their dreams.”
“I also decided to break this record to truly push my limits and test my abilities,” she added.
