GOVERNOR IDRIS REVOLUTIONALIZES EDUCATION SECTOR KEBBI. – Zuru

The Kebbi State Governor Comrade Nasir Idris has further demonstrated his political will and administration’s financial capacity to rejuvenate the state educational sector with the distribution of another batch of teaching and learning materials worth N3b as well as vehicles and motorcycles for schools supervision. 
 
The occasion was the flag-off ceremony of the distribution of teaching and learning materials for the primary schools in the state. 
Also included in the Comrade Governor’s renewed educational development package is the digitalisation of the primary schools’ pupils register and introduction of improvement financial grant for the maintenance of the schools structures.
 
The Governor disclosed that his administration has procured over two million copies of textbooks of different subjects worth N3b for distributed to over six hundred primary schools in the state. He added that the four permanent members of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the secretary will be given a vehicle each while the schools inspectors under board will get motorcycles for effective supervision of primary schools in the state.  Similarly, Comrade Nasir kauran Gwandu announced another unique initiative of digitalizing primary school’s pupils and providing Internet register and providing Internet connection facility for  documentation and record-  keeping. 
 
In view of the need to ensure prompt attention to minor operational and administrative challenges, in the schools, the government has decided to provide an improvement grant of N N200,000 to the Schools Management committees.
 
Comrade Governor Idris further explained that the newly initiated workable ideas are part of his administration’s deliberate policy of gradual rejuvenation of the educational standard in the state. According to him, the renovation of mothern 2000 dilapidated schools, construction of over 3000 additional new ones, employment of 2000 teachers and payment of backlog of debts particularly on foreign scholarship carried out in the first two years, are part of the transformation process of his administration.
 
While inaugurating the 21 chairmen of the Local Governments Education Authority management committees, all of them professors of Kebbi State extraction drawn from Usman Danfodio University,   Abdullahi Fodio University, Aliero, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi and  Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, Comrade Nasir appealed to them to demonstrate their commitment to the development of the state’s educational sector. He  assured them of his administration’s preparedness to partner with them in the overall socio-economic development of the state through the utilisation of their respective fields of specialisations.
 
Comrade Nasir kaura reasoned with serous concern that as a trained professional teacher that served at  the highest level of critical trade unions which include the Presidency of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and Deputy National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), posterity will not forgive him if he fails to provide solid foundation and sustainable development of education in the state when he has the opportunity to serve as the state Governor.
Earlier in his address,  the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, professor l Suleiman Khalid noted that the demostrated commitment of Comrade Governor Nasir Idris’s administration in transforming the state’s educational sector is a significant milestone in the development of the state.
 
The flag-off ceremony was attended by major stakeholders in the state educational development effort, including traditional and  religious leaders,  acadermcians from different tertiary institutions, reknowed education administrators, and political leaders. 
It could be recalled that shortly after his assumption of office, Comrade Governor Nasir Idris approved the elongation of the  years of retirement for both the primary and secondary school teachers in the state, from 35 years of service to 40 years and from 60years of age to 65 years.
