The Tesla and SpaceX CEO unveiled the move on his social media platform, X, positioning the new party as a challenge to the entrenched Republican-Democrat two-party dominance in American politics.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted on Saturday, referencing an earlier poll he conducted on X.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Despite the bold declaration, as of Saturday, no formal documentation for the America Party had appeared in records from the Federal Election Commission (FEC), raising questions about the party’s legal status and organizational structure.
Musk, who is ineligible to run for US president because he was born outside the country, has not named a potential leader or candidate for the party.
