APC wins 17 seats in the Yobe State local government elections, with the All Progressives Congress securing all 17 chairmanship positions contested across the state on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) announced the results on Sunday at its headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital, following the completion of voting, counting and collation across the state. The election covered all 17 local government areas and 178 electoral wards, with 10 political parties participating in the exercise.
According to YOSIEC Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Yabani, the voting process ended on Saturday before officials counted and collated the votes. The commission then announced councillorship results at ward level and declared the chairmanship results at the respective local government collation centres.
APC Wins 17 Seats Across Yobe
The results showed a complete APC sweep at the chairmanship level, as candidates of the ruling party emerged winners in all 17 local government areas. The commission released the individual scores of the successful candidates, confirming the party’s control of every chairmanship position contested in the election.
In Bade, APC candidate Musa Kalan Dagona secured 54,312 votes, while Lawan Bukar won Bursari with 24,331 votes. Bukar Adamu emerged victorious in Damaturu with 18,465 votes, while Abdulmumin Usani won Fika after receiving 61,326 votes.
Fune recorded the highest vote total among the listed results, with Baba-Goni Bade securing the chairmanship with 74,411 votes. Mohammed Musa won Geidam with 35,832 votes, while Dala Mala secured Gujba with 27,900 votes. Dayyabu Ilu also won Gulani after receiving 35,999 votes.
The APC candidates also secured victories in Jakusko, Karasuwa, Machina, Nangere and Nguru. Umaru Aguwa Jakusko won Jakusko with 47,653 votes, while Umara Mohammed secured Karasuwa with 39,320 votes. Idriss Mai Bukar won Machina with 24,092 votes, Samaila Musa secured Nangere with 37,780 votes and Mohammed Ahmed Mairami won Nguru with 45,836 votes.
In the remaining local government areas, Salisu Muktari won Potiskum with 58,705 votes, Mohammed Lamido Musa Tarmuwa secured Tarmuwa with 19,500 votes, Zanna Zakariya won Yunusari with 35,848 votes and Adam Jibrin emerged victorious in Yusufari with 31,930 votes.
Opposition Parties Secure Two Councillorship Seats
Although the APC won every chairmanship position, opposition parties secured two councillorship seats across the 178 wards contested in the state.
The African People’s Party won one councillorship seat in Fune Local Government Area, while the Action Democratic Party secured another seat in Karasuwa. These two results were the only councillorship victories recorded by opposition parties in the official results reported by the electoral commission.
Yabani said 10 political parties participated in the election, with candidates contesting the chairmanship positions in the 17 local government areas and councillorship positions across the 178 wards. He described the exercise as successful and said the commission completed the process after officials counted and collated the votes.
The YOSIEC chairman also explained that the commission’s role after the local government collation was to formally announce the results and declare the successful candidates. The announcement in Damaturu therefore completed the commission’s declaration of the chairmanship results from the September 26 poll.
The outcome gives the APC all 17 local government chairmanship positions in Yobe State, while the two opposition councillorship victories provide the only exceptions to the party’s dominance in the declared results. The successful chairmanship candidates will now represent the APC across the state’s 17 local government councils.
The Yobe election was among a number of local government polls conducted in different Nigerian states in 2026, with state electoral commissions responsible for organising and announcing the results in their respective jurisdictions.
The results also provide the newly elected councillors and chairmen with a clear mandate to begin work at the grassroots level across Yobe State. Their responsibilities will include participating in local administration, addressing community needs and working with other relevant authorities on matters affecting residents within their respective local government areas.
