The INEC preliminary voters’ register for the 2027 general elections is now available online, giving registered Nigerians another opportunity to verify their electoral information ahead of the polls scheduled for next year.

The Independent National Electoral Commission announced the decision on Monday, October 26, following concerns from Nigerians and electoral stakeholders about access to the register. The commission said the online publication would complement the physical display previously conducted at registration areas nationwide.

INEC’s decision provides an additional way for voters to inspect their particulars without travelling to designated centres, particularly for those who could not participate in the earlier exercise. The development also comes as preparations for the 2027 elections continue, with the commission expected to finalise the register after considering claims and objections submitted during the inspection process.

According to INEC, the preliminary register can be accessed through its official portal at https://display.inecnigeria.org. The commission said it remained committed to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.

How to Check the INEC Preliminary Voters’ Register Online

Registered voters can visit the official INEC portal to inspect the preliminary register and check whether their information has been correctly captured.

Users should follow the instructions on the website to locate the register for their state, local government area, ward and polling unit. Once they access the relevant list, they should carefully review their names and other available particulars to identify any omissions or errors.

The exercise is important because discrepancies in electoral records may require attention before INEC completes the final register. Voters who discover that their names are missing or their information is incorrect should seek guidance from the commission on the appropriate procedure for submitting claims or objections.

However, the online publication does not automatically correct errors in the register, nor does it serve as a new voter registration exercise. Nigerians should therefore follow INEC’s official instructions rather than assume that viewing their details completes any necessary correction.

The commission conducted the physical display of the preliminary register from October 9 to 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026. The exercise allowed registered voters to inspect their details and submit claims and objections as provided by law.

INEC Sets December Deadline for Final Voters’ Register

INEC said it was continuing to process claims and objections arising from the inspection exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register of voters on December 15, 2026.

The final publication will mark an important stage in preparations for the 2027 elections, as the commission works towards establishing the register to be used for the polls. Until then, the preliminary list remains an opportunity for voters to examine their details and raise concerns through the appropriate channels.

The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, according to INEC’s published timetable.

The online release follows public concerns about the register’s accessibility and the requirement for online publication alongside physical inspection. Making the document available online may help more Nigerians participate in the verification process, although voters must still follow the commission’s procedures when reporting discrepancies.

As the election dates approach, registered voters are encouraged to check their information early, monitor official announcements and take any necessary steps within the stipulated deadlines. Access to accurate electoral records remains an important part of preparing for the elections and supporting public confidence in the electoral process.
