MTN Nigeria board appointments have introduced five new directors to the telecommunications company’s leadership structure, bringing together professionals with extensive experience in telecommunications, financial services, corporate governance, infrastructure and risk management. Among the new appointees is Ibrahim Dikko, who previously held a senior regulatory and corporate affairs position at Etisalat Nigeria, adding further industry experience to the company’s board.
The telecommunications operator announced the appointments in a notification submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on November 3, 2026. According to the disclosure, all five directors will officially assume their positions on December 1, 2026.
The appointments involve Ibrahim Dikko, Boye Olusanya, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, Imoni Akpofure and Lwazi Bam. Their professional backgrounds cover several important areas of business management, which MTN Nigeria believes will strengthen its board’s ability to provide strategic direction and oversight.
MTN Nigeria Appoints Directors With Extensive Industry Experience
Among the five appointees, Ibrahim Dikko and Boye Olusanya will serve as independent non-executive directors, while Professor Fabian Ajogwu, Imoni Akpofure and Lwazi Bam will join as non-executive directors.
Dikko brings more than three decades of professional experience across banking, telecommunications, information and communications technology, and regulatory affairs. He previously served as chairman of First Securities Discount House Limited between 2002 and 2012, where he gained experience in financial sector leadership.
His telecommunications background also includes his previous role as Vice President of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs at Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services Limited (EMTS), the company that operated Etisalat Nigeria, between 2007 and 2017. His experience in the sector gives him familiarity with regulatory issues and the business environment in which Nigerian telecommunications operators operate.
Boye Olusanya also brings significant executive leadership experience to the board, having worked across telecommunications, agriculture, technology, energy, infrastructure and financial services for more than 25 years. He currently serves as Group Chief Executive Officer of Flour Mills of Nigeria Holdings Limited, where his responsibilities involve leadership and business management across different sectors.
Another notable appointment is Professor Fabian Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and professor at Lagos Business School. He has practised law for 35 years and built professional expertise in corporate governance, commercial law and business regulation. He has also contributed to the development of Nigeria’s corporate governance framework, making his legal and institutional experience relevant to the company’s board responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Imoni Akpofure brings nearly three decades of experience in finance, infrastructure investment and sustainability. Her previous professional engagements include senior positions at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), CDC Group, now known as British International Investment, and KINA Advisory.
The fifth appointee, Lwazi Bam, currently serves as MTN Group’s Chief Risk Officer, a position he assumed on June 1, 2026. Before joining the telecommunications group, he led Deloitte Africa and Deloitte Southern Africa as Chief Executive Officer between 2012 and 2022. His experience in risk management and corporate leadership adds another area of expertise to the newly constituted board.
MTN Nigeria Board Appointments Target Stronger Corporate Governance
MTN Nigeria said the appointments would strengthen the depth of experience available to its board, improve board operations and support the company’s strategic direction. The selection also brings together professionals whose experience spans different industries, allowing the board to draw on a wider range of perspectives when considering business decisions.
The development comes at a time when Nigeria’s telecommunications industry continues to experience changes driven by increasing data consumption, demand for reliable connectivity and the expansion of digital services. Operators must also manage infrastructure costs, regulatory requirements and changing customer expectations while maintaining sustainable business operations.
For MTN Nigeria, having directors with experience in finance, telecommunications, legal affairs and risk management provides additional expertise for addressing these business priorities. Their responsibilities will include contributing to board oversight, corporate governance and the company’s broader strategic objectives.
The five appointments will take effect on December 1, 2026, marking a new addition to MTN Nigeria’s board leadership as the company continues to navigate developments in Nigeria’s telecommunications market.
