President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, November 7, as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, projecting that at least 70,000 residents will attend the presidential rally.
The event will take place at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, where organisers have been making extensive preparations to receive the President and accommodate the expected crowd.
The visit marks Tinubu’s first trip to Rivers State since he assumed office in May 2023, making the occasion politically significant for the state and its major political stakeholders. His last visit to Rivers took place when he was President-elect, during which he commissioned projects completed by the state government under Wike’s administration.
Tinubu’s planned appearance also comes amid growing political mobilisation across the country, as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the next presidential election.
Wike Inspects Stadium, Projects Massive Turnout
Wike expressed confidence in the expected turnout on Friday after inspecting preparations at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt. He said Rivers residents were enthusiastic about receiving the President and assured that organisers had made adequate arrangements for the event.
According to the minister, preparations covered security, logistics, decorations and the general organisation of the rally. He also expressed satisfaction with the condition of the stadium and the efforts made by those responsible for coordinating the event.
Speaking about the expected attendance, Wike projected that at least 70,000 men and women from different parts of Rivers State would gather to welcome Tinubu and listen to his political message.
He acknowledged that the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 40,000. However, he maintained that the expected turnout would exceed the available seating capacity, reflecting the level of mobilisation ahead of the President’s visit.
The minister compared the venue with the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, which hosted the unveiling of Rainbow Coalition candidates the previous week. He noted that the facility has a seating capacity of about 16,000, making the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium a more suitable location for a gathering of the anticipated size.
Wike also expressed confidence in the security arrangements, insisting that relevant stakeholders had worked together to ensure a successful event.
He said the state was prepared to give Tinubu a befitting reception and expressed optimism that favourable weather conditions would support the planned activities.
Over 80 Campaign Buses Join Rivers Mobilisation
Beyond the preparations at the stadium, political groups have also intensified mobilisation across Rivers State ahead of Tinubu’s arrival.
On Friday, more than 80 campaign buses representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structures across the state’s 23 local government areas participated in a roadshow through major streets in Port Harcourt.
The exercise involved campaign coordinators and other political supporters who moved through different parts of the city before proceeding to the stadium.
Organisers designed the roadshow to increase public awareness, encourage participation and build momentum ahead of the presidential rally.
The mobilisation also highlights the political alliances surrounding Tinubu’s planned visit, particularly Wike’s involvement in efforts to secure support for the President despite his membership of the opposition PDP.
Furthermore, Wike said the rally would provide political candidates with an opportunity to present their programmes and engage directly with voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
He maintained that Rivers residents were already favourably disposed towards Tinubu but acknowledged that political campaigns remained important for candidates seeking public support.
Tinubu’s Rivers Rally Adds to 2027 Political Activities
The President’s planned visit comes at a time when political discussions and alignments are gradually gaining momentum across Nigeria.
Although the 2027 general elections are still months away, political figures have started strengthening relationships, mobilising supporters and building structures that could influence the next electoral contest.
Rivers State remains an important political location in the South-South region because of its electoral influence and the involvement of prominent political figures in national affairs.
Wike’s role in the mobilisation also gives the event additional political significance, particularly because of his continued support for Tinubu despite his position within the PDP.
Meanwhile, the rally provides an opportunity for the President to engage supporters in a state where political relationships and party affiliations have remained important subjects of public discussion.
The expected attendance, the participation of political groups and the messages delivered during the gathering will therefore attract attention from political observers.
As preparations reach their final stages, Tinubu’s Rivers rally is expected to serve as another major political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, while offering further insight into the alliances and mobilisation strategies shaping the country’s emerging political landscape.
