Governor Godwin Obaseki defeated his opponent with a difference of 84,336 votes

Contesting the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obaseki was announced winner of the exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday after all the result from all the L.G.A council has been collated.

Obaseki defeated his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a great margin.
